Nambucca Shire Council engaged Fortade to assist with the relocation of the opening of Deep Creek at South Valla Beach. Fortade met on site with representatives from Nambucca Shire Council and other key stakeholders to ensure the proposed works were in line with the current planning and approvals. Fortade floated our 20-tonne excavator to the Valla Beach car park the evening before and unloaded the machine ready for an early start the following morning. One of Fortades most experienced operators was up early the following morning to gently walk our machine out onto the sand and begin excavating a new channel some 300 meters further south along the beach.

A section of sand between Deep Creek and the ocean was then dug ready to be used as the new channel for Deep Creek. The creek end of the channel was the carefully excavated allowing water to flow down to the “plug” before entering the ocean. Once the channel was filling with water, the “plug” was then carefully removed with the new opening to the Pacific Ocean. Our machine was then brought off the beach and washed down with one of Fortades bulk water trucks to remove any remaining sand off the excavator. The excavator was then loaded back onto the float to return to the Macksville Depot.
