New equipment – Turfmaker arrives!

New purchase last week, Fortade took delivery of a new item of plant called a Turfmaker that mixes grass seed with water, sugar cane mulch or hay and spreads it over exposed soil areas to promote the cover of grass and help soil stability.  Over the years, Fortade has seen the need to reseed areas that we have worked on and understands the importance of making sure we return the site to before work as possible.

In particular, when placed in tray of our hirail side tipper, we are now able to go onto the railway line and gain access to those areas that would not be normally accessible to these types of equipment. Having this ability allows us to spray seed mix onto batters and railway cuts and improve bank stabilization and improve soil erosion capabilities.

The Turfmaker consists of a 550ltr tank with a 20 horsepower and 2 inch Honda pump. This feeds the mix to a sidewinder cannon or the 40 meter hose on the hose reel. Some of our employees that volunteer with the Rural Fire Service are looking forward to swapping their skills with just water, to Fortades brand new turfmaker.
